Special session 1: Standardization Activities of Cognitive Radio
Organizer:
Hitoshi Yoshino, Softbank Mobile Corporation, Japan,
Email: hitoshi.yoshino AT mb DOT Softbank DOT co DOT jp
Abstract:
Due to increased demand for wireless communications, e.g. cellular, wireless LAN and broadband wireless access, radio frequency spectrum is becoming more and more precious resource. Cognitive radio is one of the promising technologies to further improve spectrum efficiency. Due to the nature of the technology, it has many facets, including its enabling technologies and system architecture, its implementation issues and its operational/regulatory implications. Different fora and organizations are currently working on the standardization of cognitive radio from these different facets. This special session introduces and discusses the ongoing standardization activities on cognitive radio systems on a global or regional basis.
June 3rd : 14:00-18:00 : Room A (3F 301)
Special session 2: Strategical National and Regional R&D Projects Regarding Efficient Spectrum Management for Future Wireless Network
Organizer:
Kanshiro Kashiki, KDDI R&D Labs., Japan,
Email: ka-kashiki AT kddilabs DOT jp
Abstract:
We have recently encountered a serious lack of frequency spectrum resources
with rapid deployment and worldwide expansion of wireless communication
systems such as cellular phones. Under such circumstances, in order to
ensure the spectrum resources for vital mobile communications, advanced
technical research and development (R&D) is necessary to enable effective
and efficient management of restricted spectrum resources.
The cognitive radio system and heterogeneous radio system have recently
attracted attention for efficient usage of frequency resources.
Furthermore,
the TV White Space has been also drastically discussed for the spectrum
sharing among different wireless systems.
For such objectives, many strategic national and regional R&D projects have
been organized. Under these projects, many R&D organizations and
universities are conducting R&D activities.
In the proposed special session, it is required that the outline, objective
and obtained results of the strategical projects are introduced. By
exchanging the opinions among the researcher engaging in the forward-edged
wireless technology, their R&D activities are expected to be accelerated.
